Blue October - Foiled (Universal)

Posted April 4, 2006 — in Reviews

Blue October- FoiledRarely do albums come along that contain such matter-of-fact honesty and stark revelations that they have the ability to completely gut the listener. When these albums do come along, it is rare that they will be able to musically appeal to a large audience, having the prowess and diversity to call on an array of influences and be accessible to any that lend an ear. But it’s also rare for a band to be dropped by their major label and then picked back up, so I suppose Blue October are simply put, a very rare find. Their latest effort ‘Foiled’ does what any Blue October fan thought was impossible. It has completely surpassed all previous work and marked a new phase for the band, finally bringing some closure to the anguished frontman. Foiled ends the story we’ve been avidly following and starts a new one, while creatively reaching heights previously unthinkable. Musically intricate, intimate and interesting, Foiled will surely be landing on many ‘Best Of’ lists. (5/5)

  1. After 5 listens this is still one of the strangest albums I’ve heard…ever. Been a fan since 2001 so I expected this kind of thing. This album could grow on me like the first single “Hate Me” which I did not like at all at first, but now love. Maybe I’ll get “Foiled”’s brilliance after the 10th listen. “Into The Ocean” & “She’s My Ride Home” are already beginning to seem cool.

  3. I would have to agree with Dallas, at first I wasn’t crazy about Hate Me, but Holy Crap, it has really, really grown on me! I have been a friend and fan of these guys since, well, as long as I can remember. They are incredible guys, insanely talented, and deserve every single thing that comes their way, and probably more. If you are just discovering them, I would say pick up their previous effort “History For Sale”. Foiled is just brilliant, BRILLIANT!

  4. This band has two of the most musical geniuses (singer & violinist), in today’s music since David Gilmore(Pink Floyd), Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins.
These guys are sure to make a difference in the way we hear music on today’s radio and getting ready to take the world by storm!!
Congrats to the guys after trying for 11 years to break through, the world is now yours for the taking. PH :)

  7. Blue October are so great!! Justin’s voice is so beautiful and has that rock vibe to it. Every song on this album is what I wouldve expected from them; I listen to this CD everyday!!! My favorites include “You make me smile”, “She’s my ride home”, “Into the ocean”, “What if we could”, “Hate me”, Let it go”, “Overweight”, “X amount of words”, and “Drill a wire through my cheek”…so basically the whole CD…BLUE OCTOBER ROCKS!!!

  8. I love the Cd! My favorite songs are “Drilled a wire through my cheek” and “Let it go” and “X-amount of words”. Actually the thing that got me hooked was when “Into the Ocean” first aired on the radio and I ran out of my bedroom yelling “OMG who the hell is singing on the radio!! Have to get there Cd.” Then I relized there was more than one and started looking them up. But anyway….the Cd…….<3 it!!
