Big industry turnout for indie band Mute Math last night at Avalon (NYC). In early 2006 the band made headline news when it sued its label, Warner Brothers, for breach of contract when it promoted it as a christian rock band.

The 47 year old still can create national press. Press is important for new artists’ and especially ageing artists’. Yes, we are speaking about Madonna. She still uses her old tricks including religious imagery and sexuality as she always seemed obsessed with Jesus Christ. At her recent Los Angeles performance she insulted George Bush, simulated sex and suspended herself from a giant mirrored crucifix, head adorned with a designer crown of thorns.
More cheap hackneyed publicity for Madonna. I mean really…how hard is it to generate publicity for yourself these days. People are too fuckin easy!
The three easiest ways are 1)claiming to be Christ or show something offensive to a major religion, 2)Say that Bush sucks and needs to be impeached (the most overused trick as of recent) or 3)show a quick nipple shot or wear something “provacative”.
There…that was easy…I just tought of three easy ways in about two seconds.

I’ve tried all three simultaneously and it didnt work properly.
On a serious note tho… I agree that it is very easy to throw out easy publicity. What is effective anymore to really promote yourself without making some big story out of it.
If you look back in time, not just with the entertainment industry, but any sort of fiasco or inappropriateness was surrounded by public interest… and it just keeps getting lamer and lamer.

That’s what makes her worth the ticket price. People see Madonna to witness a 50 year old woman make a ridiculous ass of herself. They certainly aren’t going to listen to her sing. She’s like Marilyn Manson meets The Golden Girls. Its completely lame, and completely contrived, but that’s par for the course when it comes to Madonna. Come to think of it, that more or less sums up her music, too.
