It doesn't show if the person is a true musician and worthy of an "Idol" status. They don't write the songs that they're judged on. They're only judged on performance. Change the format of the show so that contestants have to write a song from show-to-show, perform it, AND blow the audience away with it. That, my friend, would be a contest, and a respectable one at that. All of a sudden, those contestants might not seem so great, but a true star would shine.
