Alternative rockers AFI hold the #1 position on Billboard with first week sales of 182,337.

Los Angeles glam act Buckcherry jumps to 19k this week. The band released their self titled debut in 1999 to critical praise and wrote 3 big hits including Lit Up, Check Your Head, and For The Movies. Their follow up album Time Bomb in 2001 flopped and everybody abandoned them. They came back with a third record Fifteen (Eleven Seven Music) wrote another big hit “Crazy Bitch” landing in the top 50. This was organic without the major label marketing hype. Lava/Atlantic didn’t pick up the band until the track was a proven hit. This is proof that a great song will break the political barriers….sooooo stop complaining and blaming majors labels and starting writing “great” songs that people actually want to buy.
in more staggering news, 18,000 people still care about live

I think Buckcherry really nailed it on this one, but not because of any sort of musical greatness. The song is alright. It’s funny. What they do brilliantly is know their demographic and pander to them. It’s a song about naughty sex with naked chicks in the video. Their hardcore legion of 15 year old fans are of course appreciating it. The current success of Buckcherry is ALL about marketing. Just because a song does well doesn’t mean it’s a great song. And smart marketing is not something reserved for major label bands…anyone can do it.

Give it some props. The hook is as catchy as you can get, it’s risque enough to appeal to the morons and drunks, and it’s rock n roll. That’s the corporate definition of a good song. It has appeal and it gets stuck in your head.

the corporate definition, yes…but otherwise, no. it’s mindless cock rock. a hair better than a7x

Remember though, if everyone played “good, thought provoking music” then nobody would make any money because everything would be the same. Your definition of “good” is completely different from somebody else’s. I CONSTANTLY run into that problem. haha.
