American Idol Slated to Release Eight Albums

Over 8 American Idol contestants will be releasing records from September to mid November with 3 contestants releasing CD’s on the same day November 14th. Fantasia Barrino’s sophomore effort is due Oct. 17. Ruben Studdard’s will release his third CD on September 26th. Clay Aiken’s street date is October 14th.

Kelly Clarkson - 5.4 million copies
Carrie Underwood - 3.2 million units
Clay Aiken - 2.8 million
Ruben Studdard - 1.8 million
Fantasia Barrino - 1.7 million
Josh Gracin - 667,000
Bo Bice - 641,000
Kelly Clarkson is the only true megastar American Idol broke. Auditioning 10,000 artists and finding one legitimate gem? This sounds about right.
Just wanted to let you know that Clay Aiken also had a Christmas album (Merry Christmas with Love) that sold approximately 1.2 million copies, so added to 2.8 for Measure of a Man, that would equal closer to 4 million albums sold.
His new CD is rumored to be released on Sept. 19, not Oct. 14 (which is an odd day for a release–that would be Saturday, not Tuesday.) Sept. 19 has been listed in Variety, but not officially confirmed as of yet.

Your list is a bit screwed up there, buddy. You’re comparing Kelly’s SECOND mainstream album to everyone else’s FIRST. Not fair. Kelly’s first has sold 2.5 mil, so she should be third on that list. And actually, her first CD only sold 1.9 mil until the success of her second one. So you should really wait until the rest can show their sales numbers on their second mainstream albums for an accurate comparison. Carrie & Clay have both done very well & will continue to …. Fantasia & even Ruben are doing fine in the R&B genre. Kelly’s the only one who has had the time to produce a second album under her control, so her success, while impressive, is just leading the way for the others. Give them a chance.
