KOARs Industry News
Posted February 27, 2007 — in Music News

KOAR doesn’t typically reserve its space for lunatic movie directors, but we couldn’t let this shameless marketing tactic slide. Disgraced movie director James Cameron who claimed to be ‘the king of the world’ when he won an Oscar for Titanic has no shame to push a script that he wanted to sell. He was set out to find the real Jesus and my GOD he came back with the goods. Golly Day, The King of the World found Jesus. The last time I picked up the yellow pages I found the name Jesus 75 times. But Nooo…He found the real one. This maniac human is actually going on the record making outlandish claims. Director Simcha Jacobovici told the press conference: “For millions of readers, the Da Vinci Code was a fantasy, a fiction. Here is a Judah, son of Jesus, next to a Jesus and a Mariamne.” Greed sees no boundaries. Some hollywood execs are concerned on how this could effect his career.
- Lastly, check out the new Avril Lavigne single girlfriend. You may not be a fan, but please, don’t let this stop you from listening to this track. This will give you an idea of the state of the music biz and why consumers stopped buying records. Seriously, what production team is responsible for this?
- Alternative rock act Cog who has close to a gold record in Australia will be playing their first performance here in the states at the Whisky (LA) on March 5th. Cog are free agents in the US. Reps will be coming to this one. For more information email management.
yah that avril track is a serious step backwards for her. i heard it on the radio and felt embarrased for her. the pre chorus is kinda cool and then they totally blow it with the choruses and the bridge.

The track is awful. Its a career killer. They need to pull the single now off the shelves. Yes, its impossible, but a RADICAL decision needs to be made if she hopes to have a career.
You need to hook up Avril with a great songwriter that understands her vision. They have to realize that she is competing with Kelly Clarkson, Underwood, etc. This wont cut the cookie.
The other scenario is that Avril is a one trick pony and really has no vision herself.
If an artist doesnt have a vision, the best songwriter and production team wont be able to help.
I hope the management team and Avril can work herself out of this mess.

Dr. Luke is responsible for this song (he also wrote 4ever for The Veronicas and Since You been gone for Kelly Clarkson). Also, take a look at http://www.myspace.com/avrillavigne
Avril is involved in this site. She labels her music ” Pop / Punk / Rock”. PUNK!
Comment by Sito — February 27, 2007 @ 1:09 pm
… the lyrics in this song are shocking, absolutely shocking!!!
This is the kind of shameless pop music targeted at pre-teens (and my mother *shaking head*) that never ceases to disgust me. I know Avril isn’t one of a long line of reality TV “stars” that are infact talentless wannabes who sing real artists songs… but I feel Simon Cowell is in some way to blame for this, and the state of the industry in general.
finally, Avril Lavigne is not, nor was she ever musically “punk”… shes visually “punk”, an image created by her management and corrupt label reps that try to fleece the young and impressionable music consumers of this world.

and yet….we buy it…
Comment by larry anderson — February 27, 2007 @ 3:36 pm
Yeah it’s true that she’s not punk.. and all the time she always defended herself with “I never said I was punk, the media made this up”. But now look at her personal music site on Myspace. Fuckin poser.

So who will have the #1 album that week? Her or NIN?
Comment by Dave — February 27, 2007 @ 3:41 pm
well..9 thru 12 year old kids should like this.thats the kind of song you would hear on saturday morning kid shows.parents will let their kids buy it(big plus here not to many little kids know how to down load for free)and won’t know what the words means and major label will have a new crop of numb minded customers.and bet this go’s 3 million.
Comment by larry anderson — February 27, 2007 @ 3:50 pm
This record wont go close to 3 million. People under estimate consumers, get with the program. This will be her least selling record to date. You don’t need to have 10 years worth of A&R experience to figure this out.
The record will go #1 on the Billboard, but remember, Avril is a somewhat a celebrity. She is a socialite and you can find her in every issue of US WEEKLY.
But this wont save her. The record will drop off the charts and it wont have traction. At the end of the day, its all about traction. If a record doesnt have traction, it means it hasnt resonated.
This song wont resonate, just like Gwen didnt resonate.
There couldn’t be a better time to put these has been CELEBS out of business.
We are asking NEW ARTISTS to pick up an instrument and start writing REAL HIT SONGS so you can put these dancing monkeys out of business. If KURT COBAIN did it, you can too…

Thank goodness this isn’t a Butch Walker produced song.

I’d like to make the comment about Cog…seriously different music. I heard of them last year while searching around for new music. I went to the “Homebake” website, devoted to the Australian concert (I believe it’s yearly). Went there in hopes to find some new music, and found Cog… The music totally drew me in because it was so wild. They are part of the reason we went to go record with Sylvia Massy Shivy. Great, different band; keep your eye on them.

ok…K.O.A.R.got some friends (Jim B. Jack D.Jonnie W.) that say “girlfriend” will go 3 mill plus..

Wow…. all I can say is wow. That was definately not up to the caliber of work Avril has done in the past. This one actually puzzles me a little bit. I mean, she wrote a huge, HIT, SMASH single for Kelly Clarkson and, in my opinion, wrote some really great other tunes over the course of her career. I mean that song gave Kelly Clarkson the boost to have the career she has today. This is a step backwards for her.
I was actually telling my wife the other day that if she just pumped out a “Breakaway” or something like that once or twice every couple of years I would really like to follow her evolution as a writer over the span of her career. But this; I agree Koar, pull it.

I think I know why Avril is so successful.. she gets a reaction out of people, bad or good, doesnt matter. Just look at all these comments here, I bet KOAR cant remember when they had that many comments after a news listing.
Comment by Sito — February 28, 2007 @ 12:17 pm
Avril WAS successful because he had some GOOD pop songs. Paris Hilton get a reaction out of people but she cant SELL a RECORD. Trust KOAR, its not about reaction, its about GREAT SONGS.
NO SONGS, NO CAREER.

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #115 in Music
and the album will come out in 6 weeks! so much for “trust KOAR”.

I bet KOAR cant remember when they had that many comments after a news listing.huh…K.O.A.R. had over 100 comments on an unsigned band.2 days ago.
Comment by larry anderson — March 1, 2007 @ 5:10 am
The difference is that Avril did not enlist her street team army to post praises on an A&R website. It was quite obvious that most of those “100 comments” came from people who have never been to KOAR before.
Comment by brandon — March 1, 2007 @ 8:44 am
Yes, I actually thought MFH were (and still are) a cool band, but their spam campaign on KOAR was really low. Almost as low as the new Avril single. Haha.

Umm.. I mean OLR (One Less Reason). My bad.

Hey Brandon…good tune! check this guy out. Brandon if you haven’t yet check out XM radio and see if you can get this on one of the channels formats.good stuff.
Comment by larry anderson — March 1, 2007 @ 7:18 pm
A step backwards. She should be evolving as an artist. What is this, her 3rd album? Come on already. Wake up executives, kids download, so don’t promote to them anymore. Start making your artists grow so they will resonate with the older audience because if you are actually good then this audience might purchase your album since they have the money to! Don’t count on promoting downloads, count on promoting evolving artists who can keep our interest and we don’t have dismiss them like in the case of this track.

Ok, so Avril debuted at #5 on the Billboard charts. I guess KOAR were wrong.. doesnt surprise me. Hit song!
Comment by Dude — March 11, 2007 @ 12:15 pm
Wow…I mean, I was never an Avril fan nor did I award her any credibility or integrity for ANYTHING she’s EVER done, but man…THIS is REALLY an all time low! Way “burst back on to the scene!”(lol) The “Gwen/Fergie/Pink” angle just ain’t working for her AT ALL!!! HA! You guys make my day!
Comment by Mat — March 11, 2007 @ 12:37 pm
I can only laugh at those silly comments. She’ll most likely take over the #1 spot of the billboard charts. How’s that not “working for her”? Dont get it.
