KOAR - SXSW

SXSW - 2007
It’s another go around for KOAR at SXSW. Finding ‘New’ potential great artists can be challenging during this 5 day fiasco, but KOAR does its best. SXSW seems to be more popular than ever in the dying daze of the music business. I guess this means people who are inside the music biz or outside like to party, network and schmooze.
Meet some of the faces behind KOAR:
KOAR will be attending SXSW and will be talking on the Demo Listening Panel (4 Room 19A) Thursday, March 15th. 2:45 pm - 4:00 pm.
Program The Dead will be playing March 15th at Guero’s 5 pm.
Another panel to check out is ‘Making Hit Records‘ (March 17th) that includes A&R guys and producers including producer/mixer David Bendeth (Breaking Benjamin, Hawthorne Heights, Red Jump Suit), Brian Howes (Hinder), A&R Craig Aaronson (My Chemical Romance, HIM) among others.
Check out the BMI Showcase March 15th at Club Deville. Artists include Miracle Druge, The Envy Corps, among others.
In other news…
Metal Maniacs OTEP were handed the axe and apparently were the first victims of the Capitol and Virgin Merger. Check out the alternative act 650 North who hails from Indiana. Former Cold front man Scooter Ward has inked a deal with I Am: Wolfpack Records which is owned by producer Ross Robinson. Lastly, KOAR recently posted emerging artist Coleen Mcmahon, if you haven’t noticed this Oregonian has a legion of cultish fans. You will hear a lot about Coleen within the next year.
I really enjoy every song off of Cold’s 13 Ways to Bleed. Seems like their formula for writing hard rock ballads dominated A Different Kind of Pain but an undeniable emotion lingers throughout 13 and even Year of the Spider. Great mix of guitar and keys. I’m sure When November Falls will yield some solid radio hits and Ross will be happy. The only negative from a sales point of view is that Scooter is a little too bleak for the mainstream rock crowd.

is it that Indiana is becoming the next Seattle? this is about the 6 band that in the last couple of years that have gotten major label deals.Victory Records is looking at my grandsons band.and they live in Crown Point Indiana.and this brings up the point…major labels are still signing bands.ok if things suck as it is made out to be then why would Warner Bros take a chance on a band that sounds so much like everyone else.after checking out 650north myspace and seen only 48 plays today well then we should be next to get a deal..we had only 17 plays today..could it be the lower play numbers are the key?check out 650north.no sreaming street team no song added to a play list. no sold out shows.so why are they signed to a major label?what as fans should be the reason for us to buy their album to attend their shows and to buy their merch.

plus, a&r guys want to find a diamond in the rough type band…they dont wanna find some band thats playing big shows opening for big bands but theyd really like to see gritty acts putting a decent amount of people into small clubs and building a following…they dont wanna sign a band thats already reached a certain saturation point IMO
Comment by nICK — March 8, 2007 @ 9:17 pm
oh and OTEP getting dropped…an absolute sham
just two weeks before ‘the ascension’ which btw is gonna be a phenomenal piece of work
just a shame

Now I don’t know Coleen personally but I have heard a lot about her in Oregon. She is known for being a talented giving person. I heard she spent much of her freetime singing at local nursing homes and shelters. Even though she is young she has more class and then women 3x her age. People are predicting even more wonderful things from this young lady. The world is in need of more people like her. I am proud of the fact she was raised in Oregon. There couldn’t be a better face to represent this marvelous state.

I used to sing with Coleen at Portland Oregon nursing homes. I’m not even kidding SHE MADE THESE OLD FOLKS CRY. They like lined up to thank her and shake her hand for touching them with her voice. She was even told by some people they inspired them to live longer! If that’s not powerful I don’t know what is.
