Clarkson to Clive Davis: You’re 80; You’re Not Suppose to Like My Album

 kelly10.jpg

Kelly Clarkson who insisted on writing her own songs despite Clive’s recommendation to use professional songwriters cannot hold back any longer.

In the August issue of Blender, Clarkson says she told Davis: “I don’t know you very well, and I am not a bull-[bleep]er. I get [that] you don’t like the album. You’re 80; you’re not supposed to like my album.” She also said: “I literally got told to my face that it wouldn’t sell more than 600,000 copies. And I got lied to. One reason I don’t like working with people at the label is that they lie . . . If you’re going with the flow and not fighting, that’s settling. I can’t take that. Life is just too short to be a
pushover.”

Clarkson also fired her manager and cancelled her summer tour.

This is probably one of the most heated controversy between artist and label head in recent memory.

  1. A2daC says:

She needs to hit some shows asap and putting out songs before moms start yapping to each other saying the new album is not as great as her previous and not on the nice side for their lil ones.

  2. Scott says:

I know I’ve said I’m done with this, but I have to admit that I read this… GOOD FOR HER!

  3. AJG says:

Shes shooting herself in the foot- you really should NEVER bite the hand that feeds you- Especially in an industry that will promote and in turn blackball you with the drop of a hat.

If I was her, I would’ve taken the supposed couple million advance and written and sang whatever the hell Davis wanted. Hes got the position of power, not her.

Shes right, it sucks being a pushover but at the same time these people are throwing millions of dollars at her, which she in turn could keep most and donate portions to charities. She also would have guarenteed sales and not worry about her future… and maybe invest some like a smart person hmmm

Did this girl go to college???

  4. Brian says:

It doesn’t take much brain power to realize ‘never again’ is a shitty single. I hope this hag gets her shit together for her next record.

  5. randy says:

Brian, there will be no next record UNLESS she gets her shit together…

  6. Stu Gots says:

Cool, more write-ups on Kelly Clarkson.

  7. jake says:

P-O-W-E-R P-O-P P-R-I-N-C-E-S-S She’s not rock and roll; and her single sucks. That is what you get when you put a karaoke singer into a multi-million dollar recording contract and have them blow up off of a record that everyone else, and their brother, did for her. I hope “Never Again” is a prophetic statement in regards to Kelly Clarkson making future albums.

  8. D says:

Clarksons made a huge mistake. Its great she wants to fight the man but nows not the time. People are fickle and attention deficit. She should have gone with what was working for her and taking the cash while she had a chance.

    Goodbye Kelly..

  9. ugly geo says:

    somewhere Peter grant is applauding…
NOW if only people KNEW who he was…thats whats sad about rock and roll!!!
kudos to you kelly clarkson…telling THE most powerful man in the biz to eat it…
i DONT ever want to hear any of you whiny people complain anymore about integrity and artists
    that take giant balls !!!!!!

  10. Jay says:

I am glad Kelly Clarkson has all of this contreversy going on. If she didn’t, you wouldn’t have anything to write about.

  11. cartel says:

“If I was her, I would’ve taken the supposed couple million advance and written and sang whatever the hell Davis wanted. Hes got the position of power, not her.”

    Wow! What a statement!
Sure Kelly may not be the best artist but at least she has the courage to stand for what she believes in and deserves credit for that.

It’s not always about the damn money and anyone with any integrity could tell you that.

Oh sure their will always be people who live and die by simply the money: the politician who takes money from a large corporation to back their cause, the drug companies who put out products knowing that horrendous side effects of some of their products, the cops who take money from drug dealers to keep their operation going, and so on.

Yes there will always be people who compromise for money…. but I’m glad there are people who still stand by principal.

  12. randy says:

Cartel, I admire your idealism, but we are all slaves. Some are just smart enough to make sure they get paid. If you disagree with me, you should watch the following movie (be warned, it’s 2 hours long).

  13. Scott says:

She could retire now and live humbly for the rest of her life, not having to work another day in her life.

  14. bill miller says:

kelly needs an ego-ectomy ; she won a singing contest , not song-writing; I don’t care how old clive is, his track record is alot more impressive than kelly’s — when millions of americans tune in to watch Sanjay sing, it’s obvious that if a chimp won American Idol, he’d sell alot too

  15. It’s not always about the damn money and anyone with any integrity could tell you that.
Cartel…this is the music buisness and it’s all about the damn money.
and please…Kelly has plenty of money or she wouldn’t be pulling this crap.in one year no one will care.

  16. Mark says:

“she won a singing contest , not song-writing”

Kelly shared ASCAP’s “Song of the Year” award for
“Because Of You”, a song that she wrote.

Her album “Breakaway” made BMG/RCA 100 million…and Kelly penned 3 of the hits. I think she earned the right to put out what she wants.

“She also would have guarenteed sales and not worry about her future… and maybe invest some like a smart person hmmm”

This is from a recent Reader’s Digest interview:

RD: How are you with your own money?
Clarkson: I have saved and saved, and I don’t have to work another day. When I won Idol and started working with a business manager, she asked, “What do you want?” I was like, I don’t ever want to have to make a decision because I need money. So we accomplished that two years ago, and I’m set.
