as long as the human ear remains analog, vinyl will always be around - as the best means of reproducing music. when the human ear truly becomes digital, that's when we'll have no more records... and i for one have never stopped purchasing my music on vinyl, when available.

"According to a report, Teenagers and students are developing a taste for records and are turning away from the clinical method of downloading music on to an MP3 player."

Which report are you referring to here? Link?

So many formats were supposed to "do in" the vinyl record, but it just won't go away. Why? The sound, very short and sweet answer. And it does help that bands are picking up on the collectible marketing aspect, with these limited releases. But I have been a fan of vinyl since childhood and, for me, vinyl will never die.

Regards,
Robert

Did you really think this was a surprise? I've known vinyl has been in a revival period for a while. Ironically, an almost dead part of the music industry is getting profits.

It's not a fab... but it's definitely in part a reaction to the economics that smaller bands and labels are dealing with. Plus, the element of scarcity is still a very big deal to a society that values matters of ownership and engages in a serious auction environment. To see this in play, visit www.vinylcollective.com to get a gauge on how this is playing among punk, hardcore, metal, indie, and emo bands and labels.

Don't get me wrong, I love vinyl. But it's a fad that's related to the 'lo-fi' way of doing things. I'm glad to see vinyl is at least in the mainstream as a fad. At least it's still around... there's a certain mojo with a real vinyl record. :)
