Switchfoot has cut ties with Columbia Records and will release new music on an independent.

Virgin Megastore in NYC could close: Real estate developers have inked a deal to buy Virgin Megastores North America. Industry insiders say the sale would allow the developers Related and Vornado - which are already Virgin’s landlords at their Union Square and Times Square stores, to close the two stores where Virgin has long-term leases well below market rates. Jordin Sparks will be the first American Idol winner not signed to the RCA/Arista/J Records system, the usual home base for music mogul Clive Davis’ artists. Instead, Sparks was moved to Jive Records.

Alternative act Anberlin have signed to Universal Republic and plan to release a new album mid - 2008.

    Those guys have a pretty solid fanbase that will buy whatever it is they’re sellin’ — best to keep their masters (& publishing if they can) and sell that stuff via digital outlets.

  4. Anberlin being one of my favorite bands, I have to disagree w/ Alex.

    They’ve been pretty damn consistent with quality records over the past few years, I expect that to continue with whatever they do next.

  5. Dallas, I was referring to SALES. Thats what its all about when your on a major. They dont care if you make a quality record, they care if you make something that sells.

  6. i agree with you alex. im worried for anberlin. i wouldve stayed on T&N. mae has gone nowhere but down.

  7. IF taking Back Sunday can’t pull it off on a Major then Anberlin DEFINITELY can’t.
