Nickelback spoiled their critics: Chad Kroeger recalls the words of caution he received at the end of the cycle for 2001’s “Silver Side Up”—a five-times-platinum record with three hit singles including the mega-hit “How You Remind Me.”"A lot of different people told us that ‘Silver Side Up’ was the biggest record we’ll ever have,” Kroeger says, “that we’ll never, ever have another big record like that again and our career would probably decline and then we’d probably just trail off and that would be the end of Nickelback. I didn’t want to accept that. I didn’t want to accept that we couldn’t make a better record than ‘Silver Side Up.’ ”
Nickelback’s fifth album, released Oct. 4, 2005, has become a phenomenon that’s not only eclipsed “Silver Side Up” but is arguably the biggest rock album of the century so far. It’s been in the top 30 of The Billboard 200 for 102 consecutive weeks and is currently No. 7. The last artist in that rarefied position was fellow Canadian Shania Twain, whose 1997 release “Come On Over” spent its first 123 weeks in the top 30. (Billboard)
Jay Z wants to rename NJ arena: Def Jam CEO Jay-Z, who’s is a co-owner of NBA’s New Jersey Nets, is making a bid to rename and rebrand the Continental Airlines Arena with his Rocawear Clothing line. According to the Bergen Record, Jay-Z is attempting to buy out the arena name since the Continental Airlines naming-rights contract recently expired.
Ford to offer HD radio on most vehicles: U.S. radio operators are working aggressively to promote HD radio, which receives over-the-air terrestrial stations with CD-quality sound and multiple new-program formats, in an effort to compete with the rise of digital music options. The industry has pledged to spend $250 million on marketing through the HD Digital Radio Alliance. Hyundai, BMW and Ford-owned, Britain-based Jaguar will offer HD radio.
Rascal Flatts Return with a big record: With a #1 country single, Rascall Flatts are expected to sell 500k first week. These are old school numbers. Foo Fighters are looking at 175k due to massive promotion at iTunes. (Hits)

KOAR’s Filter: Who wants to weed through 100,000 new record releases and 200 million videos on Youtube? You don’t, but we will. With that said,
The Almost has a new video on their myspace for the new single Southern Weather. Its a solid rock track and great video depicting the south – All I ask is that the singer Aaron Gillespie holds his mic with a firmer grip.

no doubt that Nickelback beat the odds. This band churns out hit after hit.
.””A lot of different people told us that ‘Silver Side Up’ was the biggest record we’ll ever have,” Kroeger says, “that we’ll never, ever have another big record like that again”
Boy! did Nickelback prove the naysayers wrong. Chad Kroeger has such a winning attitude. All artists should learn from this and write the best songs possible.
I just heard more Chad Kroeger on radio. Didnt he just write with Carlos Santana? I believe I heard a new song on the radio with Chad on vocals.
I just read on KOAR that nickelback is almost at 6 MILLION records. Thats a shitload of records. If major music labels had 4-5 nickelbacks on the label, no one would be complaining.
Goodluck on finding another nickelback. Chad and Daughtry have the best voices in the rock business.
The rest of the kids are just whiners and screamers. Those artists dont sell 6 million, they sell 6,000.
That daughtry record is amazing!
Im not a fan of nickelback, but i respect them.
Nickleback’s latest album is about to cross 6 million and it’s still selling over 30K a week.
I don’t listen to the band but they do write some really good melodies. It’s catchy stuff!
They can also pull it off live.
Aaron G of the almost needs to grow as a frontman. He is copying off the dude from Taking Back Sunday. Seriously, get you’re own gig. I picked up the record and dig a couple of the songs. Southern Weather is a good track.
KOAR: All I ask is that the singer Aaron Gillespie holds his mic with a firmer grip.
hahahah – so true! so true!
KOAR, i totally agree. Aaron G is so cool looking. He looks like a young Axl Rose with the red hair, but the way he holds his mic is a spoiler for sure.
He hold his mic like a lollipop, like he is ready to lick off the last flavor. Regardless, the almost is a good band musically.
Not fan of nickelback.
Bob
HD Radio? thanks for the TIP KOAR. Cant wait to buy a FORD. Radio signal where i live sucks…
Rebecca
I have read a couple of comments on KOAR that bands have submitted new music. Where can i submit new music?
Pat
new music at tips@kingsofar.com
Ahhh..im sending a bunch of new music to KOAR. Thanks!
Doesnt KOAR also have an artist management company?
I believe one of the guys that owns KOAR manages artists. But i think management company and site and seperate.
Jay Z wont win the bid to change the name of the NJ arena. To much politics, plus he is not an influential figure. But I commend him for trying!
someone please stop nickelback.
/agree with Scott.
Please end the curse of Nickelback.
They do sell a lot of records, but they’re horrible records. A + or – for the industry?

Okay, I just checked out the video of The Almost.
Quite a fitting name really. Come on, there’s not much to rave about here.
The song is average. Solid is a nice way to word it.
I have no idea what the guy is singing nor do I have one clue as to what the song is possibly about.
Sounds like alll the other stuff that’s out there.. ordinary. Big sound with no substance.
Forgetable!
How long do you think it’ll be before they have commercials on both XM and Serious Radio?
Anyone remember the “promise” of “NO” commercials
on Cable TV? Where are the “TRUTH” people on that one?
Pawns of MTV!!
