New Music: Northern Room

KOAR is really digging the Milwaukee 4 piece alt rock band Northern Room. We fell for the band after listening to ‘We’re On Fire’ and ‘Last Embrace’. The song ‘Last Embrace’ came about after the lead singer Andrew Jonathan lost a family member to suicide. In fact, a video company was so inspired by the song and its meaning that they decided to shoot a video for the track. Northern Room will be performing at the BMI/CMJ Show at Arlenes Grocery on Wednesday October 17th (9:45). For more information contact

  3. liz says:

Its about time you posted some NEW MUSIC. Has hints of Coldplay but the band has its own thing on. This song is great. Video makes it too!

  4. Rob says:

One of the better bands KOAR has posted – i dig it. Would like to hear more.

  5. Super cool to see that you’re still diggin’ these guys! Their Only Seconds EP is probably the production work I’m most proud of to date.

I wish travelling to NY this week were possible (for all of us at Burst), but we’re definitely hitting the big Northern Room show at the Turner Ballroom on Nov. 2.

They’ve also just put the finishing touches on a new song, “Home,” for their new release (Last Embrace Deluxe Edition). Buy an advance ticket for Nov 2 ($7) and you get their new CD for free.

Great guys, great music. I know they appreciate the support, KOAR.

  6. Oh, forgot to mention there’s a full track list along with our Northern Room update from last week at our Burst Labs music licensing blog.

  7. Tina says:

Definetely a good song. Also, it gets better with more listens!

  8. Ralph says:

Going to check them out at CMJ. Like the track and production. I think its better than ColdPlay!

    Thanks for the tip KOAR.

  9. Missy says:

Wow, i went to on the myspace and the track Were on Fire is awesome too. I finally have a new band to listen too.

  10. Brett says:

The live show is a amazing too. The record doesnt do them justice!

  11. Eddie says:

I agree with the comment above – Finally KOAR has posted new music. I have been coming on this site for 5 years and discovered so many great acts.

I remember listening to the Fray and the Killers on KOAR before anybody else heard it. I downloaded the demos from the Fray (Cable Car) on KOAR. My friends never know how i get this stuff. I also have the demos versions of Dropping Daylight.

I cant believe how long it takes for a band to blow up after on they are on KOAR. Sometimes it takes 2 years. This industry is bizarre.

  12. Peaches says:

The song reminds me of my friend that took her own life. Very sad and depressing, but the song give me hope. Thanks.

  13. hayley says:

Great pick KOAR – now this is a true talented band.

  14. John says:

I like the kid vocals. Has a clean yet rough tone. His voice is unique. Where can I buy this track? dont see it on iTunes?

    Anybody know?

  15. Tina says:

I cant find it either John. I am emailing Kings. Will find out.

  16. Tina says:

    Thanks Michael.

  17. Now there’s some super cool (and responsive) fan-love.

    Thanks, Michael!

  18. Angie says:

They are amazing live! I have seen them 3 or 4 times. Def will be massive in 2008. A little bit of radio and you have yourself the next big American band. You heard it here first at KOAR…

  19. Dallas says:

Hoping for something good in ‘08 from these guys too, love the EPs.

  20. hank says:

they do sound like coldplay/the fray….so it isn’t really new music….thanks!

  21. elliot says:

Love the song – thanks for the tip KOAR. When are you going to check out our band?

  22. Rocky says:

This is a good chill out song, didnt know this song was about a suicide. I knew a friend that took his own life too.

  23. meow says:

Damn! they are playing at Arlenes Grocery on Wed. I will try to make it. Im from Rhode Island and havent been to NYC in a while. They seem worth checking out.

  24. girlie says:

This track is a little depressing. To down for me, but maybe its the meaning of the song. Torn Torn Torn Torn

  25. higgins says:

This band is going to blow up, you feel it.

  26. lilly says:

I agree Higgins, this band could breakout in 2008. The singer is awesome live, very captivating and emotional.

  27. Mikewhite says:

    Are they on a label?

    major? indie or none?

  28. fred says:

I believing they are not on a label, independtly released the CD’s. But I hear there is some major interest. Should be signed soon.

  29. xfactor says:

This band is definetely going to get picked up.

    xfactor

  30. tina@gmail.com says:

This is one of the few bands that KOAR posted that everyone agrees on. Wow! its a miracle!

  31. mcmike says:

The Blue Sky in the beginning of the Video, was it shot in NYC or Chicago?

  32. mcmike says:

Reminds of Mute Math too – are they a christian band?

  33. Hey anyone getting Bono out of this? I hear some U2 ,
nice voice, but the song never really “takes off”. Was waiting for that!
    Potential, but very “Safe”
Needs better arrangement, but very nice, thanks dean!!
