Saving EMI, Warner Music Sues MP3 Search Engine, and New Music…

Saving EMI: Read the column ‘Hands Can Save EMI by Making Music Free on Web‘ posted on Bloomberg News. Hands may be smart with money, but so are the Rolling Stones, and if they aren’t sticking around, EMI will be in more strife. And yet Hands is right about one thing: The old rulebook needs to be torn up. But he is wrong to think he can fix EMI with cost cuts. He needs to dig a lot deeper into his pockets.
Ringo Starr Shows His Tough Side: Former Beatle Ringo Starr was scheduled to perform on “Live with Regis & Kelly” on Tuesday and walked off because he and the show’s producers could not agree on the length of his song.
An End to File Sharing? AT&T is evaluating whether to examine traffic on its Internet lines to stop illegal sharing of copyright material.
Juno Soundtrack Sells Like Hotcakes: Soundtracks rarely sell today but the Juno soundtrack sold 57k this week with total sales of 200k. Why is it selling? The movie is impactful and as buzznet says the music fits SO perfectly that you’ll associate the music with your movie experience. When music takes the front the seat, it sells.
Warner Music Sues MP3 Search Engine: Warner Music is suing the popular search engine Seeqpod that allows users to listen to streaming MP3s hosted on other people’s websites.
The Filter: Who wants to weed through 100,000 new record releases and 200 million videos on Youtube? You don’t, but we will. Rock act Adelitas Way has just finished working with producer Brian Howes (Hinder, Daughtry). Yep, this is mainstream rock at its finest. Listen to the track Hate Love. For more information email here.

Listen to the track Run to Me by Jenna Westerbeck. Jenna has appeared in the ‘Here I Stand’ video from Madina Lake and the ‘Rockstar’ video from Nickelback. She will begin her tour in April with Chasing Yesterday. For more information email here.
The label/company that shifts it’s focus from selling “units” to live concerts/events will rise out of this so called mess in fairly good shape. This includes better than before tour support fro their artists and possibly club/venue ownership in larger markets (Hard Rock cafe type stuff), where concert goers can buy not only merchandise from the band that is there that night, but from the other acts on said label. Doesn’t mean the CD and such packaging will go away, it will just be a part of the larger picture, not the traditional measure of an artists success.

I’ve been listening to the Moldy Peaches for a long time. Mainstream radio would never play these guys, but when they finally are presented to the mainstream they sell. Most of the people buying the record would have never heard of them if not for the movie.
There are a lot of REALLY great bands who would be very successful if they could just be heard. Feist is another example. Ingrid Michaelson is another.
Also this Adalitas Way song is way better than anything Nickelback has ever done. The first chorus is too long & the melodies have all been done & the concept is pretty dumb, but that chorus is huge.

I love love love the Juno Soundtrack. This is how soundtracks should be made - well thought out. We need a new crop of music supervisors!

RealMad-
One Less Reason is killer. Have you listened to A Day To Be Alone and September? these songs could be on a Counting Crows record!

Adelitas Way will lead the charts in 2008. Hate Love is perfect. Half merit for Brian Howes. Cheers

Everyone listen to Jon Cole!! He can tell you how to re write your songs so that no one will want to hear them!
This band should have bipassed Brian Howes and went to JON! HE IS THE EXPERT AT MUSIC NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR.

Thanks for the kind words, Cris. Another couple of notes from my deep chasm of insight… the start of “To All You” is an Avril Lavigne song & the pre-chorus is straight from Nickelback’s paperback novel song.
But even if the songs are largely inauthentic & pieced together from yesterday’s top 40 chart, I feel like Hate Love would, in the case that it’s lucky enough to be drilled into our ears like the paperback novel song, have a longer life if they held back on that first chorus. I feel like they’ve giving it up on the first date.
But hey… I could be totally wrong.

Definitely hear Hinder and Daughtry in their stuff…Brian Howes’s influence I guess? You can almost sing the chorus to Daughtry’s “It’s Not Over” right on top of the chorus of “Last Stand.” Not really digging the lyrics too much…kinda cliched along the lines of Hinder, buts that just my taste…kinda reminds me of something I’d write, which is why I leave the lyric writing to others!!
The songs sound good though and they have catchy melodies. If they get any kind of radio push, they’ll probably do great given the success of Daughtry and Hinder. This just seems to be what people are looking for right now. Brian Howes is on fire seems like everything he touches does well, so that can’t hurt them either. That Skillet record he did is great, Hinder, some of Daughtry’s stuff…must be nice to be B. Howes right now!
And I think Jen may have had the only statement in all of this that really matters…the chicks dig these guys!! That seems to have a direct correlation to commercial success so they’re on their way!!
Good luck to them…

“Bottom line,” eh? lol
Success aside, what do you think of my band CREATIVELY? Or does that portion of your brain no longer function?
