I'm not completely against 360 deals, all deals are different. Remember, a band doesn't need to sign with a major, today the can compete.

has anyone ever met some of the marketing "experts" at major labels?? i wouldn't hang my argument on their marketing knowledge as to why 360 deals add value to the artist.

he joked early on about paying less and getting more rights... you know what they say, there's a little truth in every joke. sometimes more than others.

and what incentive does flom have to change the industry for the greater good? he gets paid millions every year. i don't think he's a trailblazer who's willing to risk his livelihood in order to actually fix this industry for all those who are involved (artists, managers, agents, everyone) and not just for his employer.

360's are the last way that label execs can make the artist pay for their mistakes. They sign and back crap artist that no one will ever buy and then they say " oh shit we better sign some real artist and rip them off so we can stay in biz" If some how they manage to get out of this situation they have put themselves in with 360 deals.... 10 years from now they will have a new deal called 100% deals where the bands play for minimum wage and they keep all the revenue. And some other label guy will be on here in a new video saying why 100% deals are great for labels.

He could've been more open regarding **what** he was doing to provide value in the areas of ancillary revenue...

"uhh...we got good marketing guys wit' experience..." doesn't cut it.

Well, if nothing else, give him points for honesty. Though he could have been a little more open about *why* 360 deals are coming into play...

'In short, we've screwed ourselves over so badly -- by focusing on marginally talented 'pop tarts' and 'flavor-of-the-month' clone artists over truly talented and original 'career' bands, by choosing to shun the new distribution technology and continuing to gouge our loyal customers with over-inflated CD prices, etc., etc. -- that the 90% cut of CD sales we're currently taking from artists just isn't enough.'

Wow, the music industry is in a sorry state.

Capital Records and other major labels have to take artists' revenue from tours and merchandise to make ends meet. And, Jermaine Dupri thinks it is a great idea to launch TAG Records with Proctor and Gamble to promote their Tag body spray line.

I thought record labels made money from music and promoted artists themselves. Why should they get any money from anything other than music sales?

What's next, McDonald Records? Will we soon be subjected to songs
a k a commercials by MC Ronald and the Grill Master?
