I don't think there's anything particularly special about Matt White. Sounds kind of like Inside Wants Out-era John Mayer, but without everything that makes Mayer a star (namely the hooks, the looks, & the personality).

Seventh Son is good, but out of touch. Avenged Sevenfold & Co&Ca do the same thing, but they have a fresh take on it. Seventh Son, with all of the cheesy 80's production ideas, just comes across as stale. The track Time To Burn is great, with all of the Pantera influence, but the rest is just kind of cheesy.

Expelled has been ripped to shreds by everyone & their mom (the ny times review was a good read, & there are several really interesting responses on youtube). I'm actually curious as to how they use the song... I just don't see a point in dissecting one of the great songs of our time from a creationist point of view in a movie that's supposed to be about academic religious persecution. Looks like the film will soon be 25 seconds shorter.

The talk of derivative is very common on here...and here's a question. This is a band that commonly both industry and audience say "well, you don't sound like anybody." For industry, that seems to be a bad thing. People want to easily say "oh, you sound like Metallica" or "oh you sound like Coldplay" - and I think labels do as well.

This is a band that has been featured on this blog in years past, and I'm curious to see if you readers think the band "sounds like" somebody...

Okay..
I'm a hip hop guy.. but I do listen to everything...
I wonder what you guys think about this band...

Sure, they're commercial.. but I think they're very polished and could definitely see them on TRL....

your opinions.....???

Really? 7th Son? I seriously clicked the link three different times to make sure it wasn't a mistake. Seriously, what about this band could have possibly inspired you to even consider suggesting them?!

They sound like any of the hundreds of late 80s knockoff bands who saw their debut in the bargain bin one month after release. Terrible lyrics, cheesy music, zero originality and about 20 years too late.

Okay, I'm tired of busting your balls with virtually every post anymore -- believe me, that's not what I come here for, I come here to find decent new bands -- but I also realize I'm not giving you any alternatives.

So from now on, anytime I publically knock one of your picks, I'll try to offer what I feel is a better alternative. I don't have the time or resources that you have to discover new music, but at least I won't feel like I'm all problems and no solutions.

My first pick is one I've sent you a number of times and, for whatever reason, you've refused to post: The Matt White Band. Good voice. GREAT songs. Solid musicianship. A bit deriviative? Sure. But at least he's derived from an artist who's been popular in the last 20 years. I'd suggest any of the songs on his MySpace, but "Too Many Lovers" was the track that I first heard.
