30 Seconds Sued For 30 Million: 30 Seconds To Mars and front man Jared Leno is being sued by Virgin Records for violating their recording contract. According to the contract, the band owes Virgin Records 3 records. The band’s last album, “A Beautiful Lie,” was released in 2005. However, the band split from the label and Virgin Records insist that they have rights to claim a financial loss.
Platinum Artists Becoming Extinct: According to Music Week platinum artists and beyond has fallen to its lowest level this decade, with just two artists making the grade so far this year. Duffy and Adele are the only UK artists with debut albums released this year that have to date shifted 300,000 units or more. There were nine platinum-selling debut artists in 2006.
More Questions: Sirius-XM merger’s approval opens up a new set of questions, read here.
Shrinking Salaries: Music exec’s salaries are shrinking says the New York Post. “Multiple sources said that labels have cut back on long-term contracts with guaranteed money. New deals tend to be more performance-driven and are often limited to 2-to-3 years in length.” Another source claims that music companies money troubles are preventing them from competing aggressively for top talent.
14 Years In The Making: Guns N’ Roses track titled ‘14 Years‘ that comes off ‘Use Your Illusion’ may have just been a prophetic song because the long awaited Chinese Democracy has been 14 years in the making. Apparently, the negotiations are under way for “Chinese Democracy” to come out as an exclusive at either Wal-Mart or Best Buy.
Katy Perry On Trial: If you don’t like ‘I Kissed A Girl‘ then you’re not alone. Perry’s parents are embarrassed by the song. The daughter of evangelical Christian preachers is deemed “shameful and disgraceful” with the lyrics of the song that promotes “sin”. Speaking to DailyMail.co.uk, Perry’s mom, Mary Hudson said, “I hate the song. It clearly promotes homosexuality and its message is shameful and disgusting.” She added that this is no longer a secret, saying, “Katy knows how I feel. We are a very outspoken family and she knows how disappointed her father and I are.

yeah, I’m embarrassed by ‘I kissed a Girl’ too, what a idiotic song. I’m glad her parents told her off!
Oh yeah!!!!!!! – 14 Years by GNR..
But it’s been
14 years of silence
It’s been
14 years of pain
It’s been
14 years that are gone forever
And I’ll never have again
Your stupid girlfriends tell you
That I’m to blame
Well they’re all used-up has-beens
Out of the game
This time I’ll have the last word
You hear what I say
I tried to see it your way
It won’t work today
You just don’t step inside to 14 years
So hard to keep my own head…that’s what I say
You know…I’ve been the dealer…
Hangin’ on your street
I was the dog…they all tried to beat
Did anyone see Perry on Warped Tour? Completely out of place.

I agree with Perry’s parents, I pray that I don’t hear the song again either.
Wow thanks for the videos.. i thought she was horrible when i heard her recorded and auto tuned…. i wouldnt say she really sings… she just kinda squaks.. she might be one of the worst live singers ever… please Katy do us all a favor and just run tracks.
I agree that Katy Perry should lip sync and run background tracks. If people are going to pay money for a show, an artist should deliver. Paying money and not being delivered the goods is disrespectful because kids are saving up their hard earned money to attend a rock show. I think the artist audience connection has been lost eons ago though!
I don’t agree that Katy Perry should run tracks and lip sync. Why should ANYONE pay money to see a grade-school talent show, and the lip syncer make big bucks off of it?! Give me a break.
If you can’t do it live, then you can’t do it, and you shouldn’t be on the stage. Period.
“If you can’t do it live, then you can’t do it, and you shouldn’t be on the stage. Period” and yet she is….is she signed to a major label ?
Larry – major labels don’t make money off of live shows. She is selling CD’s and singles and that’s the bottom line for that type of business (major). Due to technology, you can make mediocre singers sound good. That has been one problem…
Wow, Holy Katy Perry backlash, batman.
If Katy Perry was my daughter, I would probably have an issue with the lyrics too. However, everyone knows, including her parents, that she didn’t write it and is a PERFORMER.
She isn’t a mediocre singer. She is a good singer. There are many ‘coffee shop’ style videos on YouTube that prove that. She plays guitar, she has talent, she writes a lot of her own material.
I saw her at Hotel Cafe 2 years ago, long before she was a pop tart. She was good. I wouldn’t call her amazing, but whatever, I am pretty sure none of us commenting on a blog are amazing at anything, either.
Just because you are a fish out of water singing a bad pop song doesn’t mean you suck. Shes been working hard in music since she was 16. Give the kid a break.
Maybe it was a money grab, or maybe the label said ‘we’ll push the hell out of this stupid pop song cause dumb 16-24 year old girls will love it.’
What is wrong with that? I think people lose perspective when something get so popular it gets tons of backlash.
People thought Sk8r Boi was a dumb song. I am sure Avril’s bank account tells you otherwise.
Katy Perry has the laugh last on any of us.
Was the song a billboard number one?
Are her live shows getting the crowd excited?
Are the people who PAID to see her and CARE about her getting what they want?
Who cares if YOU are getting what you want. Is she? Is the label? Are HER fans.
I am guessing yes.

I mean, I don’t think this is amazing or anything, but I think calling her the worst singer ever is pretty harsh.
I think Katy has talent. That is why a song that does promote young girls to kiss each other is so awful. It is a slap in the face to her parents who work in the Christian church. She only cares about herself. She could have made it without being the girl who sang that song.
No I dont think so. She has some talent yes but so do a ton of other people that play guitar, sing, dance, etc. The sad thing is she would be nowhere without this track.
I have only heard the chorus a few times, but it is quite infectious. The instrumentation was well done and that driving beat really drives “the message” home.
