UMG CEO Doug Morris has hired Jason Flom. Flom was the former chairman of Capitol Music and spear headed Lava Records who housed artists including Kid Rock and Matchbox Twenty. A source close to the negotiations says it is likely Flom will start a new imprint through Universal Republic, headed by president/CEO Monte Lipman. Morris, for his part, says that Flom would be working in an A&R capacity.
New Music: Listen to Bonnie and Clyde by Chris Nathan. Nathan hails from Nashville, TN and sounds close to Jason Mraz but with more soul and less pop. He wil be performing on October 23rd at CMJ (Sullivan Hall).

Nu Metal Still Has Selling Power? Los Angeles Five Finger Death Punch who falls between Pantera and POD has sold over 200k of their latest album “The Way of the Fist”. These numbers are quite impressive in this day and age. The band released their debut record via Firm Music/EMI and have been touring non-stop. Check out the shock and awe video for “The Bleeding“.
Everclear is streaming a new politically charged song called “Jesus Was A Democrat“. Everclear is one of those bands that wrote great songs for a solid decade then just fell apart, similar to REM, but with a shorter career. Today, Art Alexakis seems lost in the shuffle singing about volvos, soccer moms, porn stars, and democrats.
the bleeding video by Five Finger is ok. Kind of washed up, but pretty good. I like the hanging at the end of the video.
the problem with metal = five finger. They remind me of all the crappy metal bands on trustkill and century media. Please bring the rock back like Metallica did on Death Magnetic!
everclear is yuck in my opinion. They released 2 great albums and went downhill.
picked up the new Rise Against – now they are a real polically charged band—- they never disappoint.
Everclear never did anything for me… I think it’s just that I like bands that have singers that sing on key/pitch.

Everclear never wrote a song that was fit to shine the shoes of even REM’s worst material, nevermind the great shit like Don’t Go Back To Rockville or Radio Free Europe. Art Alexakis will never write a line like “You wore our expectations like an armored suit.” He’s to self-absorbed to ever pen anything meaningful. The harder the tries, the more ridiculous it is. He should just keep showing up on Vh1 shows & avoid the topical songwriting altogether.

How can you call FFDP nu-metal? They don’t have a dj in their band .. they’re not limp bizkit or korn .. They’re straight up Metal/Rock.

After making their rounds in nu-metal and grunge bands, the members of Five Finger Death Punch realized it was time to cash-in on the trend of heavy music containing screamed vocals, solos, and double bass.
Five Finger Death Punch’s wikipedia page contains details of how they work a crowd. Just as they cash-in on current trends after waving nu-metal cards, this Betty Crocker band acts as they invented behaviors at shows and it is beyond laughable.
I couldn’t get past “I never walked away, it’s still a mystery to may” in the Five Finger Death Punch video.
Five Finger is a horrible band! 20 years ago this crap would have been laughed at by metal fans, but now for some reason its taken seriously. “The Bleeding” was a top40 hit, but come on, the guy cant sing at all! Verses sound terrible.
Guys like this never even try to understand an opposing viewpoint. Like…maybe your dad left because you suck.
