I would love to believe that he could care less, but the entire record screams "I care more than you could ever possibly imagine."

Chinese Democracy is great. Period. It debuted nicely with 270k considering it could only be bought at BEST BUY. Wal-Mart outnumbers Best Buys stores by 10 to 1 and America is facing an economic meltdown. Even Kanye West record sold less 50% less than his last record.

Everyone knows that Axl fuels GNR. He is the guy, he is the songwriter, he is the idea man, he was the visionary behind the logo and the name.

As far as some critics saying the songs aren't that good, I would love them to pick the best 5 rock albums so I can see how they DEFINE good.

The point is Axl has a bunch of haters who would love to see his demise and he made a record talking about his long list of enemies. The record shut them up and better yet, Axl can care less!

RE: Tori Amos -- Anyone remember this quote from June of this year when she left Epic Records to go the DiY route?

"It is time for us as artists to stop being dependent, dependent on any system that has become undependable. Only then can we help to create a new system that propagates and secures independence for each creator."

Looks like someone still needs her hand held and her mortgage paid. Uni/Republic ain't exactly a 'new system'...

>> 261,000 copies is an embarrassment.

Totally.

Not bad for a Best Buy exclusive with no press setup? Seriously? Chinese Democracy is a running joke. Probably the most overused music-related joke of the last decade. Offspring tried to name their record Chinese Democracy. Dr Pepper based a campaign around it. The album name was a part of the American Pop Culture Lexicon years before it was even finished. That has never before been the case. And didn't this count Black Friday? When more folks were in Best Buy than any other day of the year? This record should've sold no less than 500,000 copies, even in this day of age.

There's no excuse. The public just isn't reacting in a way that justifies the price tag. The buildup was a running punch line. The mTV VMAs performance in '02 was underwhelming. Axl's got dreadlocks, for crying out loud. His biggest proponent is probably better known as a reality tv star these days than he is as a singer. And the songs just aren't that good. Half of the songs are about being the butt of all these jokes... how is that going to affect anyone in a meaningful & lasting way? Can I really believe in Axl as the torturously self-conscious hermit the way that I could as the pretentious asshole rock & roll wild child? Of course not.

And I love Buckethead & Brian Mantia to death. I was hooked on Buckethead's Monsters & Robots record for the longest time. And watching those guys absolutely slay Nightrain at Rock In Rio 3 was nearly orgasmic. But even when they were in the band, you could tell they were under Axl's thumb. None of the original members gave a fuck. All of the stories of the chaos that existed outside of Axl's padlocked, meticulously clean bedroom were essentially the magic of Guns N Roses. And everyone knows that.

Phht - "I LOVE the way A&R guys talk. Ask em the time and you’ll get some blowhard, 8 paragraph answer that puts the conversation’s focus squarely on them. Hilarious."

Absolutely beautiful. One of the most true things I've ever heard lol.
Preach it!

A&R Guy was good to Axe, maybe the only guy that was...I was there...Axe is controlled by bad people. Great talent but I was kicked out too, just for being honest and givin a shit.

It is not about lips on ass it is about folks who take advantage of creative souls... A&R guy at least tried and truly cared.
