Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed a Dream

susan

This is almost unheard of, but Susan Boyle’s new album “I Dreamed a Dream” which hit stores today is expected to sell 500k copies in the first week. She set the record for pre-orders on Amazon.com and will outsell conventional artists like GaGa and Rihanna! I think a major lesson is to be learned here…

Couldn’t wait for this CD but it was well worth it. Love it all and bought copies for everyone on my Christmas list! Susan shines as a performer and a human being. Her voice touches the spirit like none other.

    great review!

Exquisite production! The arrangers and producers present Susan at her best. I got goose bumps on the first cut — “Wild Horses” — and at “Cry Me A River,” I was crying, too. It is an absolutely perfect album and does so much to show off Susan’s great voice and personality. And the background choir was a perfect choice. Of course I pre-ordered this album from Amazon!

Overall, despite a few weak songs, I Dreamed A Dream is mostly a strong album from Susan Boyle.

Standout has got to be her version of Madonna’s “You’ll see”, which largely stays true to the original, but with Boyle’s spectacular vocals taking the song places Madonna could never go.

all I can say is “WOW”!

I trained for years as a classical singer and Ms. Boyle’s musicality, her ability to “feel” a song and perform the song with both musical precision and emotional passion, is quite advanced for a woman who has never been a professional singer.

Love it, love her, love her humility, find her a refreshing and deserving human being. Let’s support people like this, we need more of them.

I was slightly disappointed in this CD. While her voice is lovely, the tempo chosen for the tracks seems to be one. By the middle of the CD I was hoping for a more upbeat tempo… by the end I was feeling somewhat sad. Why not a song with a faster tempo? Yes, her voice was marvelous, but I am sure her voice would be just as marvelous with just a little more pizzazz to the tempo once in a while.
I enjoyed this CD. I enjoyed most of the songs.. I only wish something with a little more upbeat had been offered as well.

There is a lesson to be learned here, one that we’ve debated frequently on this site, which is to use your ears and not your eyes when it comes to music. Simple as that.
